All of our meetings take place at your home or somewhere that is convenient for you. Death is a difficult subject for most people, and we find that our clients generally feel more comfortable and relaxed in their own surroundings. We also feel that this fits in better with the friendly atmosphere that we try to create.
How Long Do The Meetings Last?
In most cases, it requires two separate meetings to complete the process. The first meeting, often referred to as the initial consultation will last approximately 1-2 hours. The second meeting is known as the attestation. The length of this meeting varies depending on the complexity of your estate plan, but is usually less than two hours long.
When Do The Meetings Take Place?
We appreciate that not everybody can be at home during the day, or can take time off work for tasks such as this. Therefore, we work around when is most convenient for you. Our meetings can take place during the day, in the evenings or even at the weekends!
What Happens At The Initial Consultation?
We will use this time to get to know you better and find out more about your individual circumstances. We will use this information to identify the areas which cause you concern; such as guardianship or inheritance tax. This will enable us to make a more personal recommendation that is tailored to suit your specific requirements, and show you how you can protect yourself, your family and your assets. All of the options will be explained to you in detail, and you will receive a full breakdown of any costs.
How Much Does The Initial Consultation Cost?
The first meeting is free of all charges, even if you decide not to proceed!
What Happens Next?
You will receive a report which summarises what was discussed at the first meeting and outlines the recommendations made for you. You will then have some time to think about this, and where necessary, discuss your options as a family. A few days later you will be asked to make a decision, your answer will be one of the following:
- Do not wish to proceed at this time
- Wish to proceed, but would prefer to use another company
- Wish to proceed and would like us to help you
If you choose to proceed with us, a set of draft documents outlining your wishes will be prepared. We will send them to you to be checked over. Once these have been confirmed to be correct, final documents will then be created.
What Happens At The Attestation?
We will arrange to revisit you and read through your new documents. This enables us to make sure that everything has been understood and answer any further questions that you may have. We also supervise the signing of your new documents and can provide an independent witness, where necessary. However, if you prefer, we can post them to you for you to complete independently. If you choose to store your new documents with us, they will be sent to the secure facility after this meeting, and you will receive your personal storage certificate.
