Perfect Xmas Present – A Will
It’s the time of year where everyone is starting to think about Christmas and for most people, Christmas is all about one thing – family!
Christmas is different for everyone, as each family have their own traditions, and everyone celebrates in their own special way. As we move through December, town centre’s become busier and busier, with people spending hundreds of pounds buying a variety of gifts for their loved ones.
What is the most special gift you can give your family this Christmas? For children, the latest toy, game or gadget? For your spouse or partner, their favourite fragrance, chocolates or jewellery?
The reality is, the best present you can give your loved ones this Christmas (although, admittedly it won’t look as pretty under the tree) is a will – make sure that you secure their future.
Whilst gadgets and games are great gift ideas for young children or teenagers, appointing Guardians for them ensures that someone that you know and trust will be there to take care of them, if you are no longer able to. Without a Will in place, the courts will decide who will become legal guardians, and this could be someone they don’t even know!
Your children may be adults themselves, with children of their own, and with a carefully structured Estate Plan, you can provide them with financial security. Writing your Will also enables you to skip a generation, meaning you could help your grandchildren to go to University, buy their first home, or even plan their wedding. You may not be able to wrap these and put them under the tree, but they would make a great gift!
This year, your spouse or partner may be dreaming of receiving the perfect present, which will show them just how much you love them. But what could prove how much they mean to you, more than any shop-bought gift would be to secure their future.
Writing your Will can help you to make sure that they wouldn’t lose their family home, or have to suffer the stress of sorting out your affairs, and in the event of your death, these things would mean a great deal.
So when you are out shopping this Christmas, and you are trying to find the perfect present for your family, think about writing your Will. After all, securing your loved ones future is something that you simply can’t put a price on.
P.S to ensure your family don’t disown you this Christmas, it may be worth getting them something else too!
